a doctrinal theology course for 9th grade students or older.Jesus’ disciples would join him in the upper room for meals, intimate discussion, and teaching. These close friends of Jesus had many thoughts, questions, and even doubts during their time with him. In the upper room Jesus intentionally prepared these disciples to continue in ministry to the world.
The Upper Room is a weekly program specifically designed to help students know what they believe and why they believe it. Sincerely seeking to understand God better, we will gather as a group in the Upper Room. Meeting times are typically Sunday nights (1 hour) starting in the fall and ending in the spring.

WHAT TO EXPECT...Upper Room will be a time and a place for students to personally explore their faith.
The Student Ministry pastors from Westwood, alongside other networked professionals in Christian ministry will teach and guide students through basic Christian doctrine.
Like the Upper Room where the disciples gathered,our gatherings will be a time to be candid with each other as we examine the tough questions about God, life, and faith.
WHAT’S EXPECTED...Attendance in Upper Room is critical. Upper Room's teaching topics will build off each other as the year progresses, so if students miss frequently it will be difficult for them to keep up to speed. For this reason, we will be taking attendance and expect that students make it to 80% of our gatherings (a student can miss four times and still meet this goal). We have done our best to plan around holidays and school breaks and we ask that students to make this as easy as possible.
Make up sessions will be available when students need them. Due to the complex nature of the topics discussed, there may be short assignments or experiences to help students process through the material presented in a given night.
THEN WHAT?As the Upper Room concludes, students will be asked to work through a statement of faith project. This is nothing to be concerned about. If your student has been participating in the Upper Room, they will do just fine. After they turn in their statement of faith project, we’ll celebrate together with a Dessert Banquet where students will receive a unique bible.
